Children engaged in play therapy

About Amy

With nearly 30 years of experience in education, I have dedicated my career to supporting children's learning and emotional well-being. I spent 22 years teaching in schools across London and Shropshire before training as a Play Therapist. For the past 5 years, I have helped children thrive through evidence-based therapeutic approaches that support mental health and emotional resilience.

As a parent of a child with trauma and autism, I bring deep personal understanding to my work with families and educators. I combine lived experience with the latest neuroscience to help adults make sense of children's behaviour and respond with compassion and effectiveness.

In partnership with Shropshire Training Partnership, I deliver professional training for schools, including:

  • Neuroscience of Behaviour - Understanding and supporting challenging behaviour in the classroom
  • Playful Connection - A therapeutic, attachment-based approach for teachers and teaching assistants

My therapeutic approach

My therapeutic approach
I am an attachment-led therapist working with an integrative approach. I believe that early nurture is the key to developing positive attachment relationships and healing from trauma. As a trauma informed therapist, I understand how trauma can impact on the nervous system and the dysregulation that can occur as a result. All of the modalities that I offer provide an opportunity to support the nervous system creating a feeling of safety, the nervous system state essential for healing, growth and learning.

Services Offered

Play Therapy

Play therapy is a form of psychotherapy that uses play as the primary medium for children to express their thoughts, feelings, and experiences. It's particularly helpful for children who may struggle to verbalize their emotions or trauma. Play therapy provides a safe and comfortable environment for children to explore difficult experiences and develop coping skills. Play therapy is suitable for children aged 4-12 years. (Though older children can attend play therapy if this is deemed the best therapeutic approach).

Filial Coaching and Mentoring

Filial therapy is a type of therapy where parents or caregivers are trained to conduct child-centered play sessions with their children, under the guidance of a therapist. It is a family intervention that aims to improve parent-child relationships and help children express emotions and work through challenges through play. Combined with an understanding of the neuroscience of behaviour, these sessions are pivotal in restoring parent - child relationships.

Parent Child Attachment Play

Parent-Child Attachment Play (PCAP) is an innovative early help model that focuses on strengthening the parent/carer (or other adult) - child relationship. The PCAP practitioner primarily works with the parent/carer (or other adult) in a one to one or group-based setting. The intervention is aimed at children 3+ to late teens. It can be offered to both neurotypical and neurodiverse children and adapted according to the child's needs.

Safe and Sound Protocol

The Safe and Sound Protocol (SSP) is a listening therapy designed to re-balance the autonomic nervous system by stimulating the vagus nerve, which helps individuals feel safer, calmer, and more socially engaged. It uses specially processed music to train the brain to process sound more effectively, particularly the frequency range of human speech. The Safe and Sound Protocol is available to both children and adults and is proven to provide support with anxiety, depression, autism, ADHD, selective mutism and autoimmune conditions such as fibromyalgia, long covid and chronic pain. The Safe and Sound Protocol can be done in the comfort of your own home in most circumstances.
